West Richland police arrest man in shooting
West Richland police arrested a person of interest in a shooting late Tuesday that sent a man to the hospital.
John Daniel Miksch, 47, of West Richland, was arrested just before midnight on an outstanding warrant for an unrelated incident, said Sgt. Scott Bravo.
It all started before 9 p.m. when Johnnie Ritchie, 39, began banging on the door of an apartment at 4335 Fallon Drive seeking help for his shooting injuries, Bravo said.
Bravo said Ritchie was shot in the right forearm. The bullet went through his arm and hit him in the chest but it didn't "enter the skin," Bravo said.
Bravo said Ritchie was uncooperative, so police began canvassing the neighborhood searching for the shooting suspect. Deputies also interviewed Ritchie at the hospital, he said. A public records search indicates Ritchie used to live on Fallon Drive but currently lives in Walla Walla.
West Richland police, Richland police and Benton County Sheriff's Office sealed off the area and repeatedly called for Miksch to exit his home at 4403 Chelan Drive using a public address system for about 20 minutes.
Bravo said police are seeking a search warrant to search Miksch's home.
In 1999, Miksch pleaded innocent in Benton County Superior Court to felony harassment for threatening to injure another man with a machete. When Miksch was arrested, he allegedly told police he wanted to kill the man, according to court documents.
