Pierce County prosecutors have charged a 19-year-old man with attempted murder after a shooting Saturday in Lakewood that appeared linked to a gang argument.
Ryan G. Clark was arraigned Wednesday on two counts of attempted second-degree murder and second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm. He's being held in the Pierce County Jail with bail set at $250,000.
Charging documents gave this account:
Two young men were walking in the 7000 block of 146th Street Southwest about 10 p.m. when two men riding bicycles began yelling gang-related comments at the victims. One of the men pulled a gun and fired several times at the victims, who fled.
One of the young men later went to sleep and awoke about two hours later and realized he had been shot in the buttocks.
He told police the first name of one of the men involved in the earlier argument and a description of the other. The two victims were shown photo montages, and each picked Clark, who police arrested Tuesday.
Clark told police he and a friend were riding their bikes when they encountered two "dudes" walking down the street. The two walkers spoke of being members of a gang, which prompted Clark and his friend to claim the territory for another gang.
Clark said his friend pulled a gun and fired three times, then handed him the weapon and ordered him to shoot. Clark said he fired three rounds.
According to charging documents, Clark said he "did not mean to shoot anyone; he meant only to scare them."
Clark has a previous conviction and is prohibited from owning or possessing a gun.
