GRANGER -- A man shot his girlfriend at a Granger tavern, then turned the gun on himself at his home two blocks away in the early hours of Valentine's Day, police said Saturday.

Witnesses at the Circle Inn told police that Salvador Ramirez shot Eliva Antunez Roman in the head, then left the tavern.

She was 49. He was 64. Both lived in Granger.

According to police, Roman and Ramirez had been together at the tavern earlier Friday night, but Ramirez left, returning with a handgun just after midnight.

When police officers arrived at the tavern around 12:20 a.m. Saturday, they found Roman with a single gunshot wound to the head. When they went to Ramirez's residence, they found him also with a gunshot wound to the head.

Police say they don't know what prompted the shooting.
