EAST WENATCHEE — A 49-year-old East Wenatchee man shot and killed himself with a rifle in an apartment complex parking lot Wednesday afternoon, East Wenatchee police said.

Assistant Chief Dan Reierson declined to release the man's name, but said he was found at about 3:47 p.m. outside an SUV in the parking lot in the 1800 block of Aurora Avenue. The man did not live at the apartments, said Reierson, and only a single shot was fired.

He said a witness described the man driving into the lot alone, but said there were no witnesses to the shooting. Reierson said investigators do not believe the shooting was accidental, but said the incident remains under investigation.

Reierson said investigators believe the man owned the gun used in the shooting.
