GUNSHOT IN FOOT YIELDS PERJURY CHARGE

A 22-year-old Reardan man is facing felony charges after shooting himself in the foot Friday and then allegedly lying to authorities about how it happened, according to authorities.

Chase Catelli went to a Davenport, Wash., hospital about 6 p.m. for a gunshot wound to his foot and told Lincoln County authorities that another man had accidentally shot him, the Whitman County Sheriff's Office reported.

A Tacoma woman died overnight after shooting herself in the head while playing with a gun, police said Tuesday.

The 28-year-old woman was drunk and playing with a gun about 11:30 p.m. Monday at a home in the 1700 block of East 67th Street, police spokesman Thomas Williams said.

Benton County sheriff's deputies and Kennewick police spent about two hours Monday searching for two men suspected of shooting a 17-year-old girl before the teen admitted she made up the story, authorities said.

The girl actually had been playing with her father's gun and accidentally shot herself in the knee, said sheriff's Lt. Joe Lusignan.

Husband, wife injured by accidental gunfire

A man and woman from Renton were transported to Kadlec Medical Center in Richland on Saturday night after a gun the man was holding accidentally fired and hit them both, said the Benton County Sheriff's Office.

The couple reportedly were at a friend's house on the 4800 block of East Mayo Loop in West Richland, officials said, adding that names aren't yet being released.

CHELAN — Authorities have released the name of a 36-year-old Port Angeles man killed Sunday when the rifle of a hunting companion discharged while being unloaded.

Timothy Cook died instantly from a bullet in the neck, said Chelan County Coroner Wayne Harris.

Sgt. Doug Ward of the State Fish and Wildlife Department said he thought the accident was the first hunting fatality since he began working in the area 12 years ago.

SNOHOMISH -- A man was flown to a Seattle hospital this morning after his brother found him with a single gunshot wound to the head.

Snohomish County sheriff's officials said there were no signs of foul play.

A gun and gun-cleaning rod were found near the man, 49, sheriff's spokeswoman Rebecca Hover said.

The man's brother called 911 around 9:15 a.m., she said. He had gone to check to see if everything was OK after not hearing from the man for a few days.

A youth showing off a handgun accidentally shot and wounded a 14-year-old boy Saturday morning on Tacoma's East Side, police said.

The victim, whose identity wasn't available, was taken to Mary Bridge Children's Hospital. His injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, said Tacoma police spokesman Mark Fulghum.

The shooting occurred in a home in the area of East 48th Street between East E and F streets, Fulghum said.

A 28-year-old Pasco man who was shot in the head while target practicing on Sunday was likely hit by a ricochet from his own gun, according to the Benton County Sheriff's Office.

The man, whose name was not released, apparently was target shooting by himself near Hover Park in east Benton County when he was hit in the temple, Capt. Steve Keane said.

He was flown to Kadlec Medical Center in Richland, where he was treated and released.

A 15-year-old Pasco boy allegedly drinking with his friends inside a van shot himself Saturday while playing with a handgun. The incident took place about 9 p.m. on Sycamore Avenue, near Parkview Boulevard in Pasco.

Improper handling of the firearm resulted in a gun shot wound on the boy's left forearm, said Pasco police Cpl. Jeff Harpster.

The boy was taken to Lourdes Medical Center, where he was reported to be in stable condition Sunday. His injury was not life-threatening, Harpster said.
