Hold on to your Holsters . . .
Gun rights advocates pushing for more guns in public. . .
We may have a new Congress and a new President, but it appears the NRA is still running the show when it comes to guns and federal legislation. There may have been a run on guns when President Obama was elected, but it's business as usual in Congress, and gun violence prevention continues to take a back seat. Representative Coburn managed to attach an amendment to the Credit Card bill allowing guns in national parks (Representatives Adam Smith and Dave Reichert both voted FOR the amendment). Soon we will be facing a battle against a federal bill that would allow individuals across the country to carry concealed handguns.
But, common sense is on our side, we just need you to be more vocal. When a pastor in Kentucky urged his congregation to carry guns to church a group of churches organized to counter that guns do not belong in a place of worship. And despite efforts since Virginia Tech, the push to put guns on our college campuses have failed.
Gun violence is a solvable problem. Most Americans believe in common sense policy solutions to gun violence, but our legislators need to hear from us. Take time to get involved today. Contact your legislators and let them know you support gun violence prevention policies, or join us in our fight by renewing your membership or becoming a member.
Together, we can create safer communities!
