Starbucks’ Open Carry Policy Becomes Fodder for Comedians
Peet’s Coffee & Tea and the California Pizza Kitchen chose to adopt a ban on the open carry of firearms in their establishments, due to the outstanding number of complaints from their loyal patrons. The open display of firearms makes people uncomfortable and invokes a sense of fear in a place that should make you feel welcome and safe to be able to enjoy the atmosphere and services the business offers.

Letter to Starbucks on Open Carry Petition
Below is a letter written by the Washington Ceasefire Board that will be sent to Mr. Howard Schultz, Founder and CEO of Starbucks. Washington Ceasefire urges you to please write a letter to Starbucks urging them to take a stand and claim its stores to be gun free zones. Please forward this email to friends and family to help us spread the word.

Governor Signs Law to Save Lives
Yesterday Governor Christine Gregoire HB 1498 into law. The bill which passed nearly unanimously in the legislature, will bring WA state law into conformity with federal law by prohibiting firearm possession if an individual is involuntarily committed by a court for a period of up to 14 days. The new law will ensure that the approximately 4,000 Washington residents who are found by a court to be at risk of self-harm or to harm others will be unable to possess a firearm until they have successfully managed their condition.

Today the Washington State Senate passed the first piece of gun violence prevention legislation in over two decades by a vote of 39-1.
